UK transport sector falling behind on gender equity

A new national report from Women in Transport warns that the UK's transport industry is not only failing to make progress on gender equity it is now actively losing ground. The 2025 Women in Transport Equity Index, based on the organisation's second sector-wide survey, reveals that key indicators of inclusion, pay equality and leadership progression have stagnated or worsened since the inaugural Index in 2023.

We’re thrilled to announce that our Navigating Parenthood whitepaper has been highly commended for the CIHT 2025 Award for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion! This recognition highlights the vital work of the Women in Transport Intersectionality workstream. The whitepaper tackles the challenges faced by working parents—especially mothers—in the transport sector. Our whitepaper exposes the motherhood penalty, where mothers earn on average 7% less than non-mothers, and offers practical solutions to close this gap.
