Current job title
Freelance marketing consultant
What does your current job involve?
I work with SMEs, scale-ups and social enterprises to grow through online marketing and digital transformation.
What's the best thing about your job?
Technology can be such a great leveller, and I love using it in ways that let ‘smaller’ organisations punch well above their weight.
What are you most proud of?
With my Women in Transport hi-vis on, I’m really enjoying being able to bring a fresher face to the organisation, starting with the website relaunch earlier this year and with plenty more in the works.
Outside of Women in Transport, I’m proudest of taking the plunge seven years ago and going solo as a freelancer. Managing a business and managing two little ones means there’s a lot of plates to spin, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Why did you join Women in Transport?
I worked with our CEO Sonya Byers in a previous role in diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), so when her call came in I jumped at the chance to work together again.
I also think that it’s really important that Women in Transport exists. DEI is taking a lot of flak these days. But this isn’t about being ‘woke’. It’s about being awake to the systemic barriers and inequities that slow down progress, and taking action to confront those hard truths.
I have a young son and an even younger daughter, and I want them both to have the opportunities to work on the next Elizabeth Line or the next Forth Road Bridge if that’s the path they choose to take. So much of transport is about moving people, and I love that Women in Transport is helping move people in the right direction throughout their careers in the industry.
What is your role at Women in Transport?
Marketing Lead.
What do you enjoy most about being part of Women in Transport?
I love the energy and the welcome of our in-person events, which I felt for the first time at the 20th anniversary celebrations at the London Transport Museum. For the year ahead, I want to move us towards recreating that same level of buzz in our online community as well.
Annual membership of Women in Transport is £60 per year providing access to professional development and networking opportunities. We very much welcome guest blogs from our members - a great way to share the incredible diversity of opportunity in transport, raise your profile and connect with our community. Join us today.
