Help shape safer journeys for women & girls across the transport network

The Women in Transport Women’s Safety Group is committed to ensuring that every journey — whether on foot, by bike, by public transport, or by car — feels safe and accessible for women and girls and other marginalised groups. Yet we know that many still alter routes, limit travel choices, or feel uneasy throughout their journey.

To better understand these experiences across the transport sector and support more informed decision-making, in 2025 we launched our new baseline survey and invited members and non-members alike to share their voice. Our Sector Findings Review report was published in September 2026.

Key findings from our Women’s Safety Baseline Survey for Women and Girls

Our survey of 737 transport professionals explored how safety concerns are recognised and addressed across the whole journey chain:

• Walking, wheeling and cycling routes

• Bus stops, stations and interchanges

• Parking environments

• Travelling on the network itself

The survey findings (summarised below) are intended to be used to identify priorities, inform stakeholders across transport and local government, and support collaborative action to improve safety for women and girls nationwide.
