The D&I Bus Group believes bus services should be as inclusive as possible particularly for those who rely on them most. We’re eager to highlight the excellent Bus Service Mapping Tool from Campaign for Better Transport.
It’s free and provides valuable insights into where gaps in bus services might exist. This helps local authorities, operators and stakeholders better understand whether current services are meeting the needs of their communities. By identifying areas where access to employment, education and other essential services may be limited it can really help support more informed transport planning.
Integrated transport is a key topic for the D&I Bus Group. The Bus Service Mapping tool’s launch follows the publication of the government’s Better Connected policy paper in April. The tool defines a minimum baseline of acceptable bus service provision alongside an ambition benchmark for what a good level of service looks like, mapping the places that fall below these levels. It is designed to support local transport authorities, bus operators and their partners in identifying gaps in provision that require additional investment.
You can access the tool at https://bettertransport.org.uk/bus-mapping/ and if you’d like more information please contact Silviya Barrett at Campaign for Better Transport at Silviya.Barrett@bettertransport.org.uk.
What a great asset to help our sector identify and address inequalities across the network.
