The North East has been shaped by transport for generations.
From the movement of coal that helped fuel the Industrial Revolution and the pioneering railways that transformed travel and trade, to shipbuilding, today's ports, airports, automotive manufacturing, and transport planning expertise, transport has played a central role in the growth and success of our region.
Through Women in Transport, we want to connect people from every part of the North East transport industry, recognising our shared heritage and strengthening relationships and collaboration across the sector.
We want the North East transport sector to provide opportunities for everyone and are working to ensure that women see transport as a welcoming and rewarding career where they can thrive.

What we set out to do
We want to create a Women in Transport community that brings together women from every part of the transport industry across the North East, from bus drivers, airport and port staff, to planners, engineers and those shaping transport policy and investment.
The region was built on transport, and we are committed to helping shape a transport industry that is inclusive, diverse and representative of the communities it serves.

Bringing investment to the region
Kate is a Programme Manager at the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority, where she leads the region’s Zero Emission Bus programme. In this role, she is responsible for delivering successful funding bids in partnership with operators and stakeholders, as well as developing the region’s Zero Emission Bus Strategy. She is also a strong advocate for improving safety and accessibility across the transport network, with a particular passion for addressing violence and intimidation against women and girls.
“I’m always advocating for the North East region (how lucky are we to live here), and I’m equally committed to advocating for women and girls, so what better way to make a difference than by bringing those two interests together.”
Libby is a Principal Transport Contracts officer at the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority, where she leads the region’s Zero Emission Infrastructure Programme. In this role, she is responsible for developing and delivering an infrastructure network that facilitates the transition from petrol and diesel to zero emission vehicles.

Individual membership
Our annual membership provides access to events in the North East and beyond, plus volunteering and speaker opportunities.

Volunteering
We’re always looking for new volunteers to help us run events in the North West and bring Women in Transport members together. We’re looking to expand our reach as far as possible, and we’re currently looking for volunteers in Cumbria, Lancashire, the Lake District and Merseyside.
