As of 1st February 2026, we will no longer be maintaining an active presence on X.
Over the past couple of years, we have been carefully considering whether to stay, leave or go dormant on X. Up to this point, we kept our X account live based on its continued use by the DfT, the Transport Select Committee, subnational transport bodies, industry bodies such as CIHT and TPS, consultancies and trade press. We have also been mindful of X’s particular importance to ensuring that people have accessible information to transport-related information in line with the Government Digital Service social media playbook.
Recent events have meant it is time to draw a line in the sand.
X (formerly Twitter) has historically been a platform for connection and community-building. Women in Transport has used it to promote gender equality in the transport sector, highlight member achievements, and participate in public discourse.
In its current form, however, X no longer aligns with our values of empowerment, equity and advocacy, nor with our core focus on women’s safety, which extends beyond streets and platforms and into online spaces as well.
Our X account will remain dormant rather than deleted. We encourage our followers to join us on LinkedIn and Instagram, where we will continue to champion and campaign for a more inclusive transport industry.
We are also hard at work on developing a new Women in Transport community platform – due for launch later this year – as a safe space for dialogue and discussion, and to bring a new level of value and belonging to our members and corporate partners.
Annual membership of Women in Transport is only £60 per year, providing access to all our events, professional development and networking opportunities. We very much welcome guest blogs from our members: a great way to share the incredible diversity of opportunity in transport, raise your profile and connect with our community. Join us today.
