Women in Transport Celebrates new partnership with Waymo

April 29, 2026 in Partnerships

Women in Transport is excited to announce our new partnership with Waymo. Established over a decade ago in America, Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company creating a new way forward in mobility. Waymo is a public, fully autonomous ride-hailing service. Riders can use the Waymo app to hail one of their autonomously driven vehicles 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

They have recently opened their offices in London and are currently testing their services in select London boroughs. They believe autonomous technology can complement and enhance London’s world-class transportation network. They can help improve air quality, reduce congestion, and make getting around safer and more accessible.

Sonya Byers, CEO at Women in Transport, commented on the new partnership:

“We are delighted to welcome Waymo as a new partner. I was delighted to join the first look event in London in January and see Waymo’s commitment to safety, accessibility and inclusion as this new mode is trialled in the city. Our recent engagement with parliamentarians, policymakers and industry leaders at the All Party Parliamentary Group event on women’s safety underscored the importance of designing transport systems that work for everyone, particularly women and girls. Partnerships like this one with Waymo present an important opportunity to explore how emerging autonomous technologies can be developed responsibly, with safety, trust and lived experience embedded from the outset. We are excited to work together to ensure innovation supports a more equitable and confident travel experience for all.”

"At Waymo, we believe that the future of mobility should be built in partnership with the very people it serves," said Heather Aijian, Head of Public Affairs at Waymo. "Joining Women in Transport as we expand our presence in the UK is a natural step in our mission to improve road safety and accessibility globally. Innovation thrives on diverse perspectives. By partnering with Women in Transport and their network, we commit to fostering an environment where many perspectives can shape how Waymo thoughtfully brings autonomous driving technology to London."
