Cross-party support for Women in Transport renewed for 10th year running

Cross-party support for Women in Transport renewed for 10th year running

Westminster, 11th June 2026

The APPG for Women in Transport held its Annual General Meeting in Parliament on 10th June, securing the continued support of Parliamentarians from across the political spectrum in addressing the under-representation of women in the transport industry and being the voice of women using the transport network.

This marks the 10th year in a row that MPs and Peers have pledged their ongoing support to improve the representation of women in the transport workforce.

Newly elected Chair Julia Buckley MP said:

"I am delighted to take on the chairship of this important group at such a pivotal moment for women in transport. The programme we have agreed today - from tackling sexual harassment on the rail network to shining a light on the poor state of facilities for transport staff - reflects exactly the kind of practical, cross-party action that can make a real difference. I look forward to working with colleagues across Parliament and across the sector to drive meaningful change."

The newly elected officers discussed an ambitious range of priorities for the year ahead, spanning safety, workplace conditions, and gender equity across the transport sector.

Sexual harassment on the rail network is set to be a key area of focus. The Group is exploring what meaningful allyship looks like in practice, how frontline staff can be better equipped to intervene, and how victims can be empowered to report incidents with greater confidence.

The spotlight also falls on the state of facilities for transport staff across the network. Rachel Taylor MP, Officer of the APPG and Chair of the APPG for Freight and Logistics, highlighted the issue as increasingly urgent, pointing to the declining quality of facilities available to freight drivers as a particularly stark example. The Group is expected to explore this in collaboration with fellow APPGs, reflecting the cross-modal nature of the problem.

The Group is also giving consideration to an event around the Women in Transport Equity Index, the UK's leading benchmark for gender equity in the transport sector and the only initiative of its kind globally, with its findings expected to prompt significant discussion across the sector when published.

The Group is pleased to continue its longstanding partnership with Avanti West Coast, building on its previous work to further support diversity and inclusion across the rail network.

Jo Field OBE, Chair of Women in Transport and Secretariat to the APPG for Women in Transport said:

“This AGM is a reminder of both the progress that has been made over the past decade and the issues that persist across the transport sector. From tackling sexual harassment to improving basic facilities for transport workers and driving greater transparency through the Women in Transport Equity Index, these are not new challenges. The focus now has to be on delivery, not discussion, and on turning shared intent into practical change that women working across the sector can actually see and feel.”

The following parliamentarians were elected as officers of the APPG for Women in Transport:

  • Chair: Julia Buckley MP

  • Officers: Lord Daniel Moylan (Conservative), Dr Scott Arthur MP (Labour), and Rachel Taylor MP (Labour)
