Women in Transport is excited to announce our new partnership with West Yorkshire Combined Authority. The Mayor, Tracy Brabin, represents 2.4 million people across the region and works with the five Leaders of the West Yorkshire Local Authorities to deliver their policies to help make West Yorkshire even better.
Their ambition is to create a modern, world-class, well-connected transport system that makes travel around West Yorkshire easy and reliable. The Mayor’s new West Yorkshire Local Transport Plan sets out how the Weaver Network – the integrated transport system for West Yorkshire - will deliver this ambition.
They created Women of West Yorkshire (WoWY), an inclusive network of diverse women and allies where they share the ambition of creating a region where women can achieve their career potential and have access to job opportunities in inclusive workplaces.
With West Yorkshire being home to over 1.2 million women and girls, their safety is at the heart of the Mayor’s work across policing, crime, community safety, and criminal justice, which is detailed in the Police and Crime Plan 2024-28.
Sonya Byers, CEO at Women in Transport, commented on the new partnership:
“We’re delighted to partner with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to champion greater inclusion and equity in transport. Their commitment to creating a safer, more connected, and accessible region aligns perfectly with our mission at Women in Transport. Together, we can ensure that women across West Yorkshire and beyond are empowered to thrive and lead in every part of the transport sector.”
Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin, said:
“This partnership will unlock more opportunities and show women and girls that transport is a sector where they belong, can lead and make a real difference.”
“Together, we’re building a future where every woman and girl in West Yorkshire feels empowered to pursue her ambitions and succeed.”
