Women in Transport is excited to announce our new partnership with the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA).
Formed in March 2024, they are led by an elected Mayor, Claire Ward, and represent 2.2 million people across the four local authority areas of Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Their ambition is to harness the potential of the region, by working alongside partners and local authorities to make the East Midlands the best place to live, to work and to learn.
Transport is at the heart of their mission, and their aim is to be carbon neutral by 2050 aligning with national ambitions and taking the region on a journey to become cleaner and more sustainable, with improved green spaces, increased biodiversity and delivering life-long housing with high levels of energy efficiency.
Sonya Byers, CEO at Women in Transport, commented on the new partnership:
"We are thrilled to begin this partnership with the East Midlands Combined County Authority at such a pivotal moment for the region. With Mayor Claire Ward and CEO Amy Harhoff leading the way, EMCCA is setting a powerful example of female leadership in transport and beyond. Their bold vision for sustainability, inclusive growth, and innovation resonates deeply with our mission to empower and support women across the sector. Earlier this year, Women in Transport launched our East Midlands Regional Hub led by the passion and dedication of two brilliant volunteers, Donna Hoffman as our Regional Lead, and Joanna Ward as our Deputy Regional Lead. It has been a delight to see the engagement and enthusiasm across the region for the support that Women in Transport offers. Together, we have an incredible opportunity to shape a future where transport drives equality, opportunity, and positive change for every community. We can’t wait to collaborate and support more women across transport to thrive.”
Amy Harhoff, Chief Executive at East Midlands Combined County Authority added:
“Our partnership with Women in Transport reflects our commitment to a fairer, more inclusive East Midlands. As a proudly inclusive organisation, we know how vital it is that women’s voices and talents help shape the future of transport. Together, we’re shaping a transport system that connects people to opportunity and empowers every community. As a woman who started her career in transport planning, I am grateful for the incredible opportunities, experience and expertise that transport gave me, and I would proudly support more women into the diverse career that the transport sector offers.”
