Why did you join Women in Transport?
To meet more women who work within the transport sector; to learn from them, share experiences and tips, have a support network, have a safe space to discuss and address issues, encourage more women to work within transport by leading through example.
What do you enjoy most about being part of Women in Transport?
Being part of a community of likeminded individuals in order to learn more about the transport sector and the roles within it. I also think it is our duty to work with others to try to overcome some of the obstacles that women face in the workplace, promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.
Current job title
Principal - Transport at Netcompany.
What does your current job involve?
I am a Principal (Transport) at Netcompany (which is the fastest growing and most successful IT services company in the Nordics, aiming to become the Northern European market leader), where Iworks across the transport industry; developing business-critical IT systems, self-service solutions, portals and service-oriented architectures using modern technologies. I am responsible for the successful delivery of various projects to National Highways as well as looking at growth opportunities within the wider public sector transport industry.
What's the best thing about your job?
My passion is to work closely with people and help them achieve their goals and vision. I moved from the legal profession (my former career path) to general management because I wanted to have a more direct and positive impact on the transport sector, which is vital for the economy, society, and the environment. Working in transport has set a real fire in me, where I go to work every day feeling like I can make a difference. This has really motivated me to understand more about our transport sector, thinking about the future and how I can really add some value.
How did you become involved in the transport industry?
By accident. I worked as a Client Director and was asked to become responsible for the various transport accounts.
What do you like about working in transport?
I really relished the opportunity to have a direct impact on an industry which provides people with access to work, education, health care and is vital for a prosperous economy. It is crucial that we promote a career in transport so that we have the right skills for a greener, safer future.
What are you most proud of?
My career transition from legal to general management within the transport sector. Changing roles can be daunting but I have realised that most skills are transferable. Through my past roles, I know I have the skills and knowledge to deliver solutions that meet the legal, commercial, and operational needs of my customers. I am now proud to share my story; I am a keen advocate for diversity across both the transport and technology sectors. I use my journey to mentor and I actively work with early careers and returners to advocate that careers are not linear.
