We’re proud to reflect on the establishment of our first ever Women in Transport network at West Yorkshire Combined Authority, with over 55 colleagues joining since last September’s launch.
The Combined Authority has developed a leading reputation for championing women, both in the workplace and through transformative projects. In 2025, the Combined Authority was recognised as a sector leader in the Women in Transport Equity Index, for demonstrating “measurable impact and a commitment to long-term cultural change”. We were also recognised by Gender Equality Champion by Vercida, who praised the organisation’s work in building an inclusive culture.
Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin, became the first member of the CA’s Women in Transport network at the Combined Authority. The Mayor has already set a strong precedent for women in transport and leadership. In 2024, the Mayor committed West Yorkshire to regaining public control of buses through franchising and in 2025 she helped to secure £2.1 billion in Government funding for mass transit in West Yorkshire.
Under Mayor Brabin’s leadership, the Combined Authority is delivering the Weaver Network, a modern integrated transport network for the region. The Weaver Network promises a better-connected West Yorkshire, giving everyone equal and reliable access to transport and supporting opportunities for all.
The safety of women and girls is one of the Mayor’s priorities and she has secured funding to improve safety on public transport, through increased funding for PCSOs and a new Bus Safety Feedback Tool. She has also overseen the #JustDon’t campaign against sexual harassment, safer parks research, and a Safety of Women and Girls Strategy for West Yorkshire.
