On May 22nd of this year, I threw a party to celebrate six years of running my business at One Hundred Shoreditch.
The planning part started towards the end of last year and I partnered with BA Events which was a big help. I did not have a large list of expectations, and this was the first time I had ever done anything like this.
My needs were very simple. I was keen on a time of year that did not clash with too many calendars, and I had to have stunning views of the City of London, where I spent a great deal of my formative career years. I was also keen to ensure that my guests who run busy transport operations across the UK were made to feel special and most of all thanked for their unfaltering support over the six years that Camilleri Appointments Ltd has been in business. When senior people are travelling a long way for an event, it needs to be good in my opinion. Having been to events that have not quite hit the mark I wanted to make sure that the catering and overall vibe of the experience was up to scratch and inclusive.
As a sponsor to some very important causes, I was also keen to ensure that I used my event as a platform to educate and inform my guests of how hard these two charities worked, and how important it is that they receive on-going support, particularly during these economically unstable times.
I have been a sponsor to the Women in Transport Advance programme for three years now and I am also a committed mentor. I was so pleased that Sonya and the extended team could join me and support me that night. My other sponsorship commitment, which is more recent, is to Rebuilding Futures Alliance. This is a growing group of charities, led by Chris and Gabby who work tirelessly to rehabilitate ex-offenders back into work.
My two coaches, who on board my permanent placements, were kind enough to say a few words and I was overwhelmed by their support. The turn out for this event far surpassed my expectations. Despite being a small business, deliberate by design, it really shows that you can have a wide reach and considerable impact whilst staying true to your values.
My gift to my network was the opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones. It’s safe to say, it worked, and nothing gave me more joy than pausing every now and then and just watching the event play out. I feel grateful every day for making the decision to set up my business and the 22nd of May was a true celebration and indication that successful recruitment businesses are relationship led.
