Women in Transport is excited to announce a new partnership with York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority. The York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority is a legally recognised, single body, created by the City of York Council and North Yorkshire Council. Their role is to use some of the money and powers that up to now have been held by the central government, and work with local leaders and communities to invest in ways that will help to make York and North Yorkshire a better place for you to live, work and do business.
One of their priorities is a cause close to our hearts - tackling violence against women and girls. They offer a wide range of local services to ensure that distinct and gender-specific support is available for women & girls who need it, such as those who are victims or at risk of exploitation, violence, and crime. Many of these services are also available to men and boys.
Sonya Byers, CEO at Women in Transport, expressed her excitement regarding this new partnership:
“We are delighted to be partnering with York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority, whose commitment to creating safer, more inclusive communities strongly aligns with our mission at Women in Transport. Tackling violence against women and girls is a vital priority, and we are proud to support initiatives that deliver essential, gender-specific services to those who need them most.
It is also incredibly exciting to see our presence in the Yorkshire region continue to grow and strengthen, with new partners joining who share our vision for change. By building this collective momentum across the region, we can amplify our impact and support for all women working in transport.”
Claire Hoskins, Director of Transport at York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, said: “Creating opportunities for women and girls to thrive across our region is a key priority for the Combined Authority, and we recognise the valuable contribution that a diverse and inclusive workforce makes toward achieving that goal.”
“We are proud to become members of Women in Transport and to join a network that is driving positive change across the sector.
“Through this membership, we look forward to sharing knowledge, learning from industry peers, and supporting efforts to increase female representation and progression within transport. By working together, we can help build a more diverse, inclusive and accessible sector that better serves the needs of everyone across our region.”
