Women in Transport Celebrates Renewed Partnership with Transport for London

February 04, 2026 in Partnerships

Women in Transport is delighted to announce that our valued founding partner, Transport for London, has renewed its partnership with us for the 21st year.

TfL (Transport for London) is a statutory body created by the Greater London Authority (GLA) Act 1999.  They are the integrated transport authority responsible for meeting the Mayor of London’s strategy and commitments on transport in London, running the day-to-day operation of the Capital's public transport network and managing London's main roads. The Mayor's Transport Strategy looks ahead two decades and cuts across all forms of transport in London. At its heart is a bold aim for 80% of all trips in London to be made on foot, by cycle or using public transport by 2041.

TfL is committed to providing a transport network that serves all of London’s diverse communities fairly and allows all Londoners to be able to travel safely, accessibly and spontaneously, from their front door to their destination, with ease. To help them achieve it they produced an Equity in Motion document - their journey to creating a fairer transport network. Details can be found on their website.

Sonya Byers, CEO at Women in Transport, commented about the renewal:

"We are incredibly proud to renew our long‑standing partnership with Transport for London for the 21st year. Our relationship with TfL is one built on shared values, mutual trust and a deep commitment to creating a more equitable and inclusive transport industry. Over two decades, we have worked side by side to champion gender diversity and support women’s careers. Together, we are committed to ensuring that London’s transport network reflects the people and communities it serves. We are delighted to continue this journey together and look forward to building on the meaningful progress we have already made."

Patricia Obinna, Director of Diversity & Inclusion at Transport for London, said:

“As a founding partner of Women in Transport, we are pleased to renew our long‑standing partnership for the 21st consecutive year. Over the past two decades, this partnership has played an important role in helping TfL build a workforce that better reflects the diversity of London. More recently, Women in Transport is supporting our long‑term strategic objectives set out in our diversity and inclusion strategy, Action on Inclusion, at the heart of which is our commitment to create a workplace where everyone feels included, respected and able to belong.

Under Action on Inclusion, we are committed to embedding inclusive practices into every aspect of working life and decision-making at TfL, ensuring that representation, empathy and respect guide how we interact and support one another as colleagues. We know that when people feel valued and understood, they are better able to contribute with confidence; that a sense of trust and connection improves the experience of everyone who works here and, by association, everyone who travels with us.

Our partnership with Women in Transport helps to inform our work whilst also supporting our aims, providing space for women across TfL (and the transport sector) to develop, connect and influence change in a way that is thoughtful, collaborative and innovative.

We look forward to continuing our journey with Women in Transport working inclusively, consistently and purposefully towards a more equitable future for us all”.

Sound Bites from TfL Women’s Colleague Network Group

Women’s Network Chair – Bev Rust

"This renewal reflects the heart of Action on Inclusion, creating a culture where people feel heard, supported and able to be themselves. It shows that inclusion is something we’re building together, day by day, through patience and shared purpose."

Network Member (Customer Operations)

"A transport network can only be inclusive when the people shaping it reflect the diversity of the customers who rely on it. This partnership supports that goal by giving women across TfL more visibility, more connection, and more opportunities to influence the customer experience in meaningful ways."

Early Careers Representative

"Action on Inclusion highlights the importance of equitable development pathways, and this partnership helps make those pathways real. For women early in their careers, it creates a sense of reassurance that TfL is committed to an environment where we can grow steadily and confidently."

Network Member (Engineering & Safety)

"We talk a lot about long‑term culture change, and this partnership is a clear example of it in action. Having 21 years of support behind us and a strategy that embeds inclusion for the years ahead shows that this isn’t a short‑term initiative, but a sustained commitment to a more inclusive TfL."
