Driving Change to Support Blind and Partially Sighted Passengers

Free Training Resources for Women in Transport Members

At Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT), we believe everyone deserves the freedom to travel independently — and for blind and partially sighted (BPS) people, that freedom can be life-changing. Whether it’s getting to work, accessing education, or staying connected with loved ones, inclusive travel matters.

But inclusion doesn’t happen by accident. That’s why we’ve created free, practical training resources to help professionals across transport and infrastructure better support BPS passengers — and we’re proud to offer them to Women in Transport members.

Whether you’re in operations, policy, or design, these tools are here to support your professional growth and help you champion accessibility in your work.

Why It Matters

The 2025 Women in Transport Equity Index paints a clear picture:

  • Women make up just 27% of the transport workforce in England

  • Only 36% of leadership roles are held by women — and many sit outside core transport functions

  • A staggering 65% of organisations have no plan to close the gender pay gap

  • Mental health support and parental leave are declining

These figures show that inclusion isn’t optional — it’s essential. And when we talk about accessibility, we must include gender equity, disability inclusion, and lived experience at every level.

Bus Driver Awareness Resources

Bus operators and trainers can download and adopt the materials via the CPT compliance manual and the DVSA Better for Business website. For the DVSA, visit the ‘Bus and Coach Driver CPC Resource Packs‘ page, download the accessibility resource pack and use ‘VI Awareness Resources’ and ‘VI Awareness Resources (trainer notes).’

CIHT E-Learning Modules

In partnership with the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation (CIHT), we’ve developed flexible online modules focused on inclusive design and accessibility.

Every word is written by BPS people, and the modules are approved for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) — perfect for planners, engineers, and anyone shaping the future of mobility.

Available to CIHT and BCoE members via the CIHT Learn platform.
