Women in Transport response to the Transport Decarbonisation plan

Earlier this month, the government announced its Transport Decarbonisation plan, which set out a strategy for all modes of transport to be net zero by 2050.

The all-encompassing plan is well thought out and addresses many of the challenges the transport sector is facing today.

We were particularly pleased to see the investments and commitments to active travel as well as the increased electrification of rail.

There were however some fairly obvious omissions from the plan.

Commenting on the plan, Jo Field, Women in Transport President, said:

“While there is still a need for further research into this subject, it’s becoming more and more clear that there is a link between balanced gender representation, and more effective, greener policies.

“We would have liked the strategy to address this, detailing the role women will play in decarbonising transport.”
