Earlier this week Women in Transport Scotland held our “Fascinating World of Street Design” event, which was both our first in-person gathering since our launch and also our first active travel focussed event. The event was coordinated by our Active Travel Lead, Becki Cox of Glasgow University, and we were privileged to be joined by WiT Scotland member Isla Jackson, structural engineer and Director at Civic Engineers, who led the walking tour along Sauchiehall Street.

Meeting the transport  heroes who go above and beyond

Taking a peak behind the scenes and getting an insight into the more unusual jobs in the transport sector is a feature of our events programme. One of our recent revelations was a visit to the British Transport Police (BTP) Specialist Operations Department in North London, where we discovered the amazing contribution women make to keeping our railways safe and secure.

It was a such an interesting and enlightening experience, meeting women doing incredible jobs such as firearms officers, dog handlers, members of the Working at Heights Team and the Specialist Response Unit.

Women in Transport at MOVE 2020

This week Women in Transport’s Chief Executive, Sonya Byers, will be speaking at MOVE 2020. The conference and exhibition is expected to triple in size and scope from last year’s successful launch, which saw nearly 3,000 urban mobility leaders from across the globe attend.  The conference will feature 1,000 speakers over 500 sessions across 15 content tracks, covering the entire ecosystem of urban mobility.

On Thursday 12 September 2019 around 100 representatives from across the transport sector attended the Women in Transport Autumn reception hosted by KPMG at their offices in Canary Wharf. This year's topic was 'Creating the customer centric organisation of the future’. The panel discussion focused on what makes excellent customer experience (CX), challenges faced by specific sectors within the transport industry, the role of technology in CX and what transport organisations are doing to enhance their focus on the customer.
