Advancing Women in Transport: Sponsor Spotlight on Xanta

Xanta is an engineering consultancy firm that has been at the forefront of delivering excellence in the rail industry since being formed in 2007. We have been sponsoring and championing the Advance mentoring programme since it began along with other support for Women in Transport, and we’ve been invited to share our story with the broader membership.

Nestled in the heart of Fleet Street in our offices since 2010, our commitment to innovation, safety, and client satisfaction has propelled us to the forefront of the sector.

We take pride in our specialisation in rail and other guided-mode engineering. Our expertise extends across a wide spectrum of services, primarily catering to public sector client organizations. However, our portfolio isn't confined to the rails - we recently showcased our capabilities by successfully completing assignments for an international airport, demonstrating the versatility and adaptability of our team.

In our early years, we worked on various exciting schemes:

  • Provided safety directorship to the Edinburgh Tram

  • Supplied planning, signalling, and leadership teams to a Franco-German signalling bid

  • Assisted with operation readiness activities for new sidings and stations for London Underground

We also worked with Docklands Light Railway, Overground and other TfL modes to ensure peak operational availability and reliability for the 2012 Olympics and took a great deal of pride in our small part in ensuring the success of the Games.

Since then, we’ve worked with clients that include Mersey Rail, London Tram, Nottingham Tram, a major airport, Dublin DART, and Docklands Light Rail; our work has a diverse range, with recent projects involving Quantified Risk Assessments for major London tunnels and Cases for Continued Safe Operation for small train systems and even landmark bridges. Having successfully delivered their full, integrated suite of engineering standards, we are proud to have recently been awarded a commission to supplement this with a sub-suite of standards, plans and processes for London Trams - marking another milestone in our journey of engineering achievement.

Beyond our consultancy activities, Xanta is committed to diversity and inclusion within the industry and beyond. We are proud sponsors of Women in Transport’s Advance mentoring programme, an initiative aimed at supporting and advancing women's careers in the transportation sector. By signing the rail EDI charter, we’ve reinforced our dedication to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout our operations.

Xanta recognises the importance of giving back to the community. We actively support charitable initiatives such as Railway Children, a charity dedicated to helping vulnerable children living in and around railway stations, and Volunteer Action Tower Hamlets, contributing to community development and welfare.

Our real strength is of course our people. Xanta is enriched by the expertise of individuals like Rashmi Devsi, a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with over 30 years of experience in the rail industry. Currently leading engineering activities at the Plumstead Maintenance Facility, Rashmi's proficiency spans across Rolling Stock and various engineering disciplines. Her role in managing change processes alongside the Asset Management and Delivery Manager showcases our commitment to excellence in project management.

As we continue to push the boundaries of engineering consultancy, Xanta remains dedicated to shaping the future of rail and transportation. Our commitment to excellence, diversity, and community support is a proud tradition in our company, and we invite you to explore the possibilities with us at www.xanta.co.uk and follow us on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/3120967/admin/feed/posts/.
