Site Visit to Blackwall Tunnel Control Room and Vent Shaft
Kier Highways are pleased to invite Women in Transport members to join them on 13th October 2022 at their Blackwall Tunnel office in London.
Please note that spaces are restricted to 12 people so get your registration in as soon as you can by completing the registration form below. If oversubscribed, we will ballot for places. If you are successful, you will receive a calendar invitation.
The contract’s purpose is to sustainably deliver highways maintenance and improvement services vital to London. The contract, which went live in April 2021 and is set to run for eight years, involves the maintenance of TfL’s road tunnels and highway pump stations, including mechanical, electrical and control activities associated with each tunnel, renewals, safety inspections, intelligent transport systems (ITS) and cleaning.
Take a look around the control room overlooking the Blackwell Tunnel, tour the Blackwall Tunnel Northbound Ventilation Shaft, and hear from excellent female talent about their career journeys and industry experiences.
Please Note:
The ventilation shaft is a 10 minute walk from the depot.
The shaft building has several staircases between the levels with a total of 73 steps.
Visitors will need the following 6 points of PPE to visit the shaft:
Hard Hat
Safety glasses
Hi-Viz top (long sleeved)
Hi-Viz trousers
Safety gloves
Safety boots
Tops must be long sleeved. Pink PPE will be acceptable as long as they have the required reflective strips. If you do not have PPE and need to borrow any items on the day, please inform us on the registration form below.
The meeting point will be at the office opposite Blackwall DLR station so is very easy to find.
The event will start at 9.00am but we encourage you to aim for between 8.30am and 9.00am to allow for any delays.
