Women in Transport’s Autumn Reception put the spotlight on our progress on gender parity. We spent a lively evening discussing what has been achieved so far, our future aspirations and how we can progress on gender parity. The event, on a subject that raises many questions, emotions and challenges, attracted more than 100 guests and was generously hosted by Arup.
Read MoreThe Power Road bridge, which carries the four lane A406 North Circular Road over the railway, is being replaced by Transport for London and the HOCHTIEF UK project team. This is a critical section of the TfL network at the junction of the M4/A4 and both the North & South Circular road. The project has involved major challenges; not least keeping the A406 open with 3 lanes while works were being carried out and keeping disruption to a minimum.
Women in Transport were delighted to be invited to take a tour of the site and learn more about this £35m project which began four years ago and is due to be completed by summer 2019.

You may recall a while ago that we asked Women in Transport members to encourage their children to participate in Transport for London's (TfL) children’s book competition, telling the stories of Women in Transport. It was organised in partnership with British book printing institution Clays and is part of the Mayor of London’s #BehindEveryGreatCity, marking the centenary of the first women in the UK winning the right to vote.
The competition, which included three different age categories, asked children to use their imaginations to draw a picture or write a story about how women at TfL keep London moving.
From more than 600 entries, from all over London, TfL has just announced the winners.

At the recent Aviation Festival in London, to support diversity in both the transport and travel and sectors, Women in Transport members were invited to attend a Women in Aviation Mixer.
Not only was this an excellent opportunity to meet people in a range of roles across the travel and transport industries but we also got to hear inspiring speeches from Bonny Simi, President of Jetblue Ventures and Chris Browne, Chief Operating Officer of Easyjet.

Camilla Ween is a Harvard Loeb Fellow and a Built Environment Expert at the Design Council. She is an architect and urbanist. Camilla worked for Transport for London for 11 years advising on the integration of transport with land use development and policy. She is currently a director of Goldstein Ween Architects, working on urban planning and transportation projects world-wide for public and private sector clients.
