Lunch & Learn with Anji Gopal
'Is Sitting is the New Smoking' - How to reduce the health impact of sedentary behaviour - practical suggestions for daily use
Women in Transport are pleased to welcome Anji Gopal, The Back Boss and founder of the Back Care Foundation, who is on a mission to get people moving; to get bums off seats both at home and in the office!
Sitting for prolonged periods is harmful to health – yet UK adults spend 8+ hours daily in sedentary positions. This epidemic costs us in health outcomes, do you recognise any of them?
• Increased risk of heart disease, diabetes and some cancers
• Chronic back pain now affecting 40% of adults
• Reduced cognitive function and decision-making ability
• Mental health challenges including anxiety and depression
• Higher healthcare costs and sick leave
• Decreased productivity and engagement
The home/office hybrid model has made this worse - and evidence now shows that just going to the gym once a day DOESN’T unwind the negative effects of sitting.
THE SOLUTION? Join Anji for “DESKERCISE” - strategies you can do at your desk
Join Anji for an interactive & evidence-based session to explore why these health impacts happen and more importantly, what you can do – right now – to improve your health (even if you sit lots!). When you know what to do – it’s super easy – and some of this can be done AT YOUR DESK.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
An interactive session with time for movement, Q&A & solutions for back and neck pain when you are AT your desk
Powerful but quick techniques that you can use (sometimes without anyone knowing!)
A fun and lively session
Join from your desk or workstation – no special equipment needed.
This event is only open to Women in Transport members.
