An interview with Drivetech’s head of commercial development, Jennifer Morris

November 22, 2023

Jennifer Morris, head of commercial development at Drivetech, takes pride in addressing the unique challenges faced by businesses in fleet management but also in being part of an exclusively female Commercial Management Team.

Managing over 40 people, every member of this team has been promoted from within Drivetech - a testament to its commitment to developing its employees and promoting a supportive and inclusive work culture. We had the opportunity to sit down with Jennifer to discuss the future of driver safety and the importance of promoting a strong driver safety culture.

Having worked in Fleet Management for 13 years, Jennifer’s role allows her to explore her passion for improving overall driver safety for road users and developing driver safety culture within organisations. She explains: “Drivetech is the perfect place for me to create the change I want to see. Safety on the roads, effective risk management and providing positive customer experiences is at the core of what we do”.

“We believe that our innovative courses, programmes, and training empower drivers to commit to cultivating a culture of safety, responsibility, and excellence on the road. Our programs go beyond the mechanics of driving: they create a mindset that transforms road users into confident and conscientious drivers, ensuring safer journeys for all.”

What is your role at Drivetech?

“The head of commercial development role is very varied. Ultimately, I am in charge of leading and developing a successful business development team, as well as, inputting into and developing the commercial aspects of a business to drive revenue and growth. I often get the chance to attend events to grow my network, but also to grow and nurture the relationships I have with existing clients and to create new ones! This role is unlike any other that I’ve had before, it definitely comes with its challenges, but that’s what makes it so exciting – I never know what to expect.

What’s been the highlight of your career at Drivetech since starting this role?

“There are too many to say! From contributing to the development of innovative courses and programmes, to being part of a strong, female-dominated team, every day at Drivetech is a highlight because they’re all so different and unpredictable. What I do love is how I get to collaborate with so many different departments within Drivetech and the wider AA to create the best approach in producing the best services for our clients. They say teamwork makes the dreamwork – that is definitely the case here!

Why is it important to have a strong driver safety culture?

“A strong driver safety culture is vital for safeguarding lives on and off the road. Prioritising driver safety not only reduces the risk of accidents and injuries but also enhances operational efficiency. A strong safety culture also promotes responsible driving behaviours and improves overall driver wellbeing. By instilling a commitment to safety, companies can protect their employees and the public while contributing to long-term success and sustainability.

Finally, what do you see for the future of driver safety?

At Drivetech and within the AA, we envision a future where technology not only steers us towards our destinations but also safeguards every journey. I believe that the road ahead is paved with innovation, where smart solutions and advanced driver assistance systems unite to create a safer and more secure driving experience for all. Our commitment extends beyond the present, shaping a future where every driver is empowered by technology to navigate with confidence, knowing that safety is not just a destination but an integral part of the journey for all of those involved.
