The North East gave a warm welcome to Women in Transport earlier this month at the exclusive Northern Counties Club. The event marking the celebration and launch of our first regional hub outside London, was led by Nexus, the organisation that provides, plans and promotes public transport in the North East of England.

Women in Transport’s Autumn Reception put the spotlight on our progress on gender parity. We spent a lively evening discussing what has been achieved so far, our future aspirations and how we can progress on gender parity. The event, on a subject that raises many questions, emotions and challenges, attracted more than 100 guests and was generously hosted by Arup.
Read moreThe Power Road bridge, which carries the four lane A406 North Circular Road over the railway, is being replaced by Transport for London and the HOCHTIEF UK project team. This is a critical section of the TfL network at the junction of the M4/A4 and both the North & South Circular road. The project has involved major challenges; not least keeping the A406 open with 3 lanes while works were being carried out and keeping disruption to a minimum.
Women in Transport were delighted to be invited to take a tour of the site and learn more about this £35m project which began four years ago and is due to be completed by summer 2019.

You may recall a while ago that we asked Women in Transport members to encourage their children to participate in Transport for London's (TfL) children’s book competition, telling the stories of Women in Transport. It was organised in partnership with British book printing institution Clays and is part of the Mayor of London’s #BehindEveryGreatCity, marking the centenary of the first women in the UK winning the right to vote.
The competition, which included three different age categories, asked children to use their imaginations to draw a picture or write a story about how women at TfL keep London moving.
From more than 600 entries, from all over London, TfL has just announced the winners.

Congratulations to Women in Transport board member, Lauren Sager Weinstein, who has been presented with the award of UK Chief Data Officer of the Year by CDO Club, the world's largest community of C-suite digital and data leaders.

Read moreIt was a landmark moment for Women in Transport last week as we joined our Advance mentors and mentees for training with EW Group.
The Advance mentoring programme is a pilot scheme that Angela Gainsford, Christine Hurley and I have been collaborating on for a year. It was wonderful to see this work culminate in a boardroom full of talented women, working across the transport sector, passionate about the industry and committed to progressing their careers.
Applications are now closed for the Advance mentoring programme. Thanks to everyone who took the time and effort to submit an application to be a mentor or mentee. We will be contacting all the applicants at the end of next week to confirm their place for the training session on 22 November.
