What advice would you give a younger you in the transport industry?

If I asked you “What advice would you give a younger you in the transport industry”, what would your response be?

As one of the premier mentors in the Advance programme, I have been matched with mentees who are spookingly, younger versions of me - with the drive, ambition, determination, frustrations, challenges and self-doubts that I had all those years ago. I was fortunate to have had patient mentors who provided invaluable guidance and who contributed to successes in the industry. But I will admit that luck played a big part in me connecting with these mentors.

Today, the Advance programme takes out that element of luck and replaces it with a process of carefully matched mentors and mentees who have similar professional interests, core values and a genuine passion to learn from each other. It’s been an absolute pleasure to be a part of the Advance programme journey. Why wouldn’t it be? Now, I don’t have to wonder what advice I would give to a young me. As a mentor in the Advance programme, I am happily giving it.

Audrey is a long-standing member of Women in Transport and has been a mentor on Advance since the pilot programme. Audrey is a change management specialist with over 20 years’ experience in the transport industry and a qualified coach.

Applications for Advance 2020 are now open until 14 October 2019. All members of Women in Transport can apply to be a mentee on Advance and any manager level or above, man or woman, who currently works in or is affiliated with the transport sector can apply to be a mentor for Advance.

Advance 2020 is generously sponsored by TXM Recruit, Xanta Rail, Steer and Brighton & Hove Buses.
